It's beginning to look as though Birmingham City is a club at war
IN MY 28 years covering football for BRMB in this area, I have learned that a disunited club will fail when it comes to chasing success and glory.
From the outside it looks like Blues are at war with their manager Alex McLeish following Karren Brady's comments and David Sullivan's TV interview.
Without doubt, Karren's comments in her Sun column were inappropriate, although she did explain in yesterday's Birmingham Mail that the column had been edited and gave a different twist what she was saying.
Sullivan is a strange one in as much as he will answer any question he is asked as honestly as he can without worrying about diplomacy or spin.
That does not always mean he's right but he does believe every word he says.
However, with nine games to go and Blues lying second in the Championship table is this the time to be making any apparently negative comments whatsoever?
United from top to bottom is without doubt the recipe for success.
If either Karren or David is unhappy with anything the manager does they have the right to air those concerns but they should be done in private.
The consequence of this is that the players just might be left thinking the board have no faith in the manager, his time in charge might be close to ending and that the board think some of the players are not good enough.
That could turn them off or create a negative atmosphere in the dressing room at a time when every single word coming out of the club should be positive.
McLeish will now have to spend a lot of time lifting the players and getting them mentally ready for the challenge ahead.
However, I get the chance to talk to Alex, Karren, and David quite regularly and can assure every single Bluenose that they are all totally committed to promotion.
Only last week Karren was telling me how excited and nervous she was at the prospect of promotion and that she was desperate for McLeish to get the team back into the Premier League.
My advice to all three would be that if you can't say anything positive at this time it's best to say nothing at all.
I am sure at the end of the season, promoted or not, there will be a season debriefing when all three parties can say their piece and examine what was done well and what was done not so well and the reasons why.
The club really do need a united front from here on in if promotion is to turn from probable into definite.
