Isn't it about time Preston just let it lie?
THEY just won't let it lie...
It's seven years now since Preston North End defeated Blues in the play-offs on penalties at Deepdale.
You know, the one where Trevor Francis got in a strop because the spot-kicks were not taken at the redeveloped Town End, which was a building site, but instead in front of Preston's fans.
But they still seem to be living on the glory of that night judging from all the nostalgia. The match programme carried a centre-spread celebratory picture, the old (untrue) favourite tale about Jasper Carrott bringing champagne into the Blues dressing room before the match, was dredged up.
At half-time, the big screen replayed the penalties and Preston's crowd made more noise cheering misses by Marcelo and Darren Purse than they did when watching the actual game before them. In fact, they booed when, just before Paul McKenna's clinching spot-kick was struck, the screen went blank as the second half of Saturday evening's match got under way.
Needless to say, they cut back moments later!
Stud Marks wonders whether Preston similarly go OTT about the play-off final itself?
As they got hammered 3-0 by Bolton Wanderers, perhaps not.
