Quincy Owusu-Abeyie debut delights Alex McLeish
BIRMINGHAM boss Alex McLeish insists Quincy Owusu-Abeyie can become a Blues star after he marked his debut with the final goal in their 4-0 Carling Cup rout of Wycombe.
The former Arsenal man, who has moved to St Andrews on loan from Spartak Moscow until the New Year, is still short of match fitness but underlined his potential with a stunning fourth goal at Adams Park.
Mehdi Nafti, Sebastian Larsson and Cameron Jerome were also on the scoresheet but McLeish believes Quincy will spearhead the Blues charge back to the Premier League once he is fully fit.
"It was a great finish from Quincy and he proved in the time he had on the pitch that he has got plenty of skill and pace," McLeish said.
"He's a very lively player and will be even better once we get him fit to play 90 minutes.
"He wants to be a big player for us and hopefully he will be.
"It was a great end to a good evening and it was a thoroughly professional performance from the players.
"We all know getting back to the Premier League is the priority but it would be good for everybody at the club if we had a good cup run."
